Susan
and Jeff began their Ayurvedic studies with Dr. Vasant Lad
at the Ayurvedic Institute in
Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1995. Dr. Lad is the heart and
soul of Ayurveda in America.
The Ayurvedic
Institute is the oldest and largest Ayurvedic school in the
country and continues to set the standard for quality education. They
completed the four year program in 1999. It was also their
good fortune during this time to concurrently study with
Dr. Sunil Joshi, renowned Panchakarma expert. Additional
teachers of Ayurveda include Dr. David Frawley, a formidable
scholar in Ayurveda and Vedic science, and Vyas Houston,
a well known Sanskrit scholar and educator. Ayurveda is a
life-long study and the Turners are currently working with
Dr. Sarita Shresta of Nepal whose specialty is in women’s
health. Dr. Shresta is a rare gem; she brings such heart
and compassion to her work and she is one of the very few
female teachers of Ayurveda.
In addition
to Susan’s training and experience in Ayurveda, she
has 12 years experience as a licensed Registered Nurse in
critical care. Prior to her nursing career Susan was a paramedic
for 10 years. She has studied western herbology with Dr.
Tierona Low Dog, a leading expert in botanical medicine,
integrative health and drug/herb interactions.
The Turners
are trained in Applied
Kinesiology. Applied Kinesiology is a scientific diagnostic
method used to gain information about the level of health
and functionality of the body’s organs, the integrity
of the body’s skeletal and muscular system and body’s
response to a host of biological factors including allergies,
heavy metals, pathogens, nutrition and energetic influences.
Jeff has done additional studies in Advanced Clinical Kinesiology
with Dr. John Bandy in Austin, Texas.
The Turners
have broadened their expertise in Functional Medicine
receiving training from Dr. Datis Kharrazian in Functional Blood
Chemistry, Advanced Endocrinology and Immunology. Functional Medicine takes
a
closer
and
more critical look at diagnostic
laboratory values often employing a more narrow range while examining the functional
relationship
between values. A much more complete health assessment can be had by taking a
comprehensive
view
of
functional
blood,
urine
and
hormone values.
Jeff has
had the good
fortune to study hands-on energetic healing with Carolyn Silver and Bonnie
Bainbridge Cohen, founder of Body-Mind
Centering® . He is also on the Board of Directors of the National Ayurvedic
Medical Association.
This combination
of training and experience in traditional and complimentary/alternative
care allows us to give encompassing consideration to your
current and pre-existing health concerns.
